October 1, 2020: Access to high quality health care, particularly for the underserved, was an issue of great importance to Tom and Jean Yawkey during their lifetimes. In 1953, the Yawkeys first lent their personal philanthropic support to Dr. Sidney Farber, and as owners of the Boston Red Sox (1933-2002), they also designated The Jimmy Fund the official charity of the team. The relationship between the Yawkeys and The Jimmy Fund lasted throughout both of their lifetimes and continues today, through the Yawkey Foundation’s longstanding Presenting Sponsorship of the PMC Kids Rides – funding for which that currently surpasses $1,300,000.
