Yawkey Foundation Announces $935,000 in 2023 Human Service Program & Small Capital Grants to Greater Boston Nonprofits

More than $112 million invested to-date to help individuals and families meet critical needs

DEDHAM, August 23, 2023 – The Trustees of the Yawkey Foundation today announced $935,000 in Program & Small Capital grants to 20 Human Service nonprofit organizations across Greater Boston. The Foundation’s Program & Small Capital grants provide high-impact, innovative nonprofit organizations with up to $100,000 for programming, small projects, or equipment to further their missions. The nonprofit recipients of these grants were recognized for their steadfast commitment to their communities by providing critical resources, services, and supportive programming to underserved youth and families across eastern Massachusetts. The organizations’ missions and impact align closely with the values, actions, and legacy of giving of the Foundation’s founders, Tom and Jean Yawkey.

Bleday, Chief Executive Officer and Trustee of the Yawkey Foundation. “Tom Yawkey and Jean Yawkey werecommitted to quietly and generously helping those needing assistance to access resources to be healthy, safe, andsecure, and these nonprofits are perpetuating that legacy.”

In addition to these Program & Small Capital Human Service grants, earlier this year the Foundation also provided a $2.5 million Transformational Capital grant to the Dimock Center to establish a 39-bed post-detox clinical stabilization services unit for men and women in Roxbury. Additionally, the Foundation recently provided a $250,000 Strategic Investment grant to Easterseals Massachusetts to expand services for individuals with disabilities in Bridgewater and
surrounding communities
through increasing access to quality services in a safe environment. During 2023, the Foundation is continuing to fulfill meaningful multiyear grants to critical Human Service organizations providing food, shelter, and basic needs to nonprofit partners including a $15 million commitment to Pine Street Inn, a $900,000 grant to Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and a $700,000 grant to Catholic Charities, among other charitable investments in this priority area that was so important to the Yawkeys.

Among the 20 Human Service nonprofits receiving 2023 Program & Small Capital grants from the Yawkey Foundation are organizations located in neighborhoods throughout the City of Boston and communities including the Gateway Cities of Chelsea, New Bedford, Quincy, Salem, and Waltham.
