DEDHAM, MA – December 24, 2024 – The Yawkey Foundation today announced $160,000 in charitable grants to commemorate the 80th wedding anniversary of Tom and Jean Yawkey, extending the couple’s remarkable legacy of philanthropy to the communities they called home during their lifetimes this holiday season.
The grants will provide critical support to nonprofits serving vulnerable individuals and families in the two regions that held special significance for the Yawkeys throughout their lives – Boston, MA and Georgetown, SC. The following grants were made to provide resources for cancer patients in Boston and to strength health and human service safety net organizations in South Carolina’s Lowcountry:
- $80,000 to the Holiday Patient Assistance Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to provide financial relief for patients facing economic hardship during their cancer treatment.
- $80,000 in grants shared among four Georgetown County, SC nonprofits providing health and human services:
- Healthy Learners
- Helping Hands of Georgetown County
- Smith Medical Clinic
- Georgetown Memorial Hospital -Tidelands Health
