100 years ago, Tom Yawkey completed the purchase of shares from surrounding property owners to safeguard more than 20,000 acres of land on South Carolina’s Winyah Bay as a wildlife preserve, research area and waterfowl refuge. Today, continued conservation efforts at the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources were acknowledged during the North American Migratory Bird Joint Venture in Washington, D.C.
