$125,000 in Tuition Scholarships Awarded to Seven College-Bound Students from Greater Boston
Dedham (MA), August 16, 2024 – Seven outstanding Boston area high school graduates have been recognized for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments by being selected for participation in the “Yawkey 1933 Scholars” Program. The “Yawkey 1933 Scholars” name references Tom Yawkey’s purchase of the Boston Red Sox in 1933, with the team remaining under Yawkey ownership until 2002.
Nominated by long standing, valued, youth-serving nonprofit partners to the Yawkey Foundation – the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s Yawkey Club of Roxbury, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester, and the Catholic Charities’ Teen Center at St. Peter’s in Dorchester – each Yawkey 1933 Scholar is awarded a four-year renewable scholarship funded by the Yawkey Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to continuing the philanthropic efforts of Tom Yawkey and Jean Yawkey.
During their lifetimes, Tom and Jean Yawkey valued the importance of education and understood its ability to alter the course of young lives. Building on a shared commitment to educational access, the Yawkey Foundation is collaborating with Foundation To Be Named Later (FTBNL), the charitable foundation of Theo Epstein and his twin brother Paul, to provide tuition scholarships and mentorship opportunities to talented, high-achieving Boston area young adults throughout their college experiences. FTBNL will be administering the Yawkey 1933 Scholars program on behalf of, and in partnership with, the Yawkey Foundation.
